At Castle Dental Studio, your dental check up is not just about looking at your teeth. We take time to check all your soft tissues looking for any pathology which may be taking place. We check the state of your gums. Your dentist will use a small probe to check your gums for bleeding and pocketing. Pocketing is when the probe slips between your tooth and gum to a depth greater than 3.5 mm. This helps your dentist on advising you regarding your dental care and whether there is evidence of gum disease.

Your dentist will speak to you about your medical history, which you will have filled out before coming into the surgery. It is important to fill this medical history form thoroughly as it may affect the treatment we can offer you. If you are not sure about something please feel free to consult with your dentist.

Normally at the dental check up no treatment is carried out unless you have specifically asked for treatment. At the end of the exam, we shall endeavour to provide you with a treatment plan and estimate of cost for your treatment. You can then plan your future appointments with your dentist and our receptionist.

Your Questions About Routine Checkups

  • How often should I have a routine check-up?

After your check-up, your dentist will recommend a date for your next visit. The time to your next check-up could be as short as three months or as long as two years (or up to one year if you’re under 18).

Generally, the lower your risk of dental problems, the longer you can wait before your next check-up. So people with good oral health will probably need to attend only once every 12 to 24 months, but those with more problems will need check-ups more often.
